Easy Scottish Harp Music
Presents ten simple arrangements of traditional Scottish songs new to the harp repertoire. The selections require a 34-string harp. With no lever changes, they are well-suited to beginning or intermediate harpers. Pedal harpists will also enjoy the simplicity and readability of these tunes. Most are 1-2 pages in length. The texts of the songs are provided for historical context. Learn new music, coordinate the right-hand melody with a simple left-hand accompaniment, and develop the skills of dynamics and expression. The tunes are appropriate for performances at Renaissance fairs, recitals, music therapy sessions, and as relaxing entertainment. For more advanced players, the printed arrangements can be used as an outline and embellished according to the harpist’s creative abilities.
The songs in the book are taken from lovely, intimate vocal recordings and arranged for harp in a clear and simple format. The beginning harper/harpist can discover the beauty of ancient Scottish music while developing the sightreading, fingering, memorization and performance skills necessary for advancement. These songs bring new material to the harp repertoire and a pleasant listening experience to any audience.
I will be the guest author tomorrow evening, September 14, 2009, at “A Victorian Sentiment” in Somers, CT, for the first “Meet and Greet the Author” of the new season.
A demonstration on both folk and concert harp of some of the songs from my book will be followed by a question-and-answer session. I will explain where I found the original music and how it was arranged for harp.
